Classroom Music Program


The Classroom Music Program covers a large range of thematically-based activities which are designed to engage students and develop a lifelong passion for music. The curriculum is developed around the Victorian Essential Learning Standards with a strong emphasis on the enrichment of creative thinking, personal and interpersonal skill development fine and gross motor coordination and skills in logical thinking and sensory perception and application.   • Sing
  • Listen and analyse a wide variety of styles of music
  • Dance and move (particularly in the junior years)
  • Play a variety of instruments including non-tuned and tuned percussion  instruments (including marimbas and anklung) and guitar (senior level)
  • Interpret and write graphic and conventional notation
  • Compose and record their own music

 

Activities exploring the fundamental elements of music and group work is highlighted. The children are encouraged to work co-operatively and discuss the steps and processes required to prepare for an audience.

 

Music Extension Activities These are available for students at all ages and are targeted towards appropriate age levels. All students in Prep, Year 1 & Year 2 are involved in a Year Level Choir. Students may elect to be involved in the Year 3 & 4 Choir or the Year 5 & 6 Choir. Students in Year 5 & 6 may audition for a place in Chamber Choir which perform at a range of places over Melbourne, throughout the year. These have included; Victorian Arts Centre (Hamer Hall), Federation Square, The Glen Waverley Shopping Centre, Forest Hill Shopping Centre, Elizabeth Gardens, Waverley Eisteddfod (Robert Blackwood Hall). We also offer Marimba for Years 4, 5 & 6. The only costs involved are the tuition books and bus/train money for Choir members when performances are outside the school. We also run a Snare Drum Ensemble for Year 6 students. Members of this ensemble are selected by the Music teacher and Year 6 teachers.
